Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving's been pretty fun, even though this is the first one ( I think) that I haven't been at home for.

Some of my friends who also didn't get to go home made dinner here together (plus we mooched lunch off of the dorm Thanksgiving meal, which was crowded to the max with international students, who likewise, did not go anywhere for break). It was a good time, and the highlight of my day was probably the fact that I succesfully baked my first pie ever. Apple pie from scratch!

In unrelated things, here are some other pictures for those of you who haven't seen MIT or Tang Hall yet:

Dad and I around campus during Orientation Week.

View from my dorm. Seriously! I don't see how people can complain about this dorm, when we have this sweet view of the Charles River and the Boston Skyline.

Word of the Day

Here is Merriam Webster's Word of the Day:

November 28
chawbacon
\CHAW-bay-kun\
noun

Meaning
: bumpkin, hick
Example Sentence
Larry has been living in the city for almost a year, but he’s still as much of a chawbacon as the day he left the farm.

Wow. What a versatile and useful vocab word........

Beauty and the Geek

HAHA. This is awesome.
There's a lady walking around the hallways trying to get guys to sign up to audition for Beauty and the Geek.

Wouldn't you respond well to this? "Do you want to be on TV? I think you'd really fit in well on our program- you seem like the kind of person we're looking for."

Freakonomics

I finished reading Freakonomics. It was an entertaining read, full of fun little insights into random questions.
But really? People can make whole careers out of sifting through data, correlating variables that at first glance don't go together? Weird....

New Blog!

Hello world!

I decided it might be nice to start recording some of the events going on in my life online again.
Who doesn't like to see pretty pictures and strange rants every once in a while??

Thanks to a certain someone running across my old xanga page, I realized how entertaining it is for others (and me, especially) to look back on ideas/thoughts/strange phrasings that I have had running through my head at different stages of my life.

Since I think it's safe to say that the start of grad school has affected most every aspect of my life (already maturing me considerably beyond undergrad heather, viewable at www.xanga.com/olsmalls), I suppose a new blog is in order.

More posts with my exciting life stories to come :)
